About Kate

Kate Bedford, MPH, has taught puberty education and human sexuality to adolescents and their parents for the past fifteen years at schools throughout the Bay Area, including Nueva, Menlo School, The Brandeis School of San Francisco, Presidio Hill, La Scuola International School, Berkwood Hedge, Ring Mountain Day School and The Marin School.

Previously, she worked at Health Promotion Services at Stanford University, where she was an advisor to the Sexual Health Peer Resource Center and to HIV Peer Counseling, as well as supervisor to the campus-wide Peer Health Educators. She has also worked for the San Francisco Department of Public Health HIV Prevention Section,; Magnet, a gay men’s health center; and UC Berkeley’s Bixby Center, researching global family planning and maternal health. She earned her Bachelor’s from Stanford and her Master’s of Public Health from UC Berkeley.

She firmly believes puberty does not have to be traumatic, surprising, or painful.  She concedes, however, that zits stink.
